Lapel pin: Royal Australian Air Force [mini]
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) badge or crest features the Imperial Crown, a soaring eagle and the Latin motto "Per Ardua Ad Astra" (meaning "Through adversity to the stars"). The design, created by John Heaton-Armstrong, is closely modelled on the British badge - with the inclusion of Australian flora (a sprig of wattle) and fauna (the wedge-tailed eagle). It was commissioned in 1937 and formally adopted by the Air Force in 1939.
Although small in size, this lapel pin features a finely-detailed, full-colour depiction of the RAAF crest. It is finished in enamel and gold-tone metal and features a push pin at the back.
Materials: Metal, enamel.
Care instructions: Wipe clean with a dry cloth.
