Scratcher's war
By
Jill Mather
Countless horses were called to war during the First World War. The Australian-bred Waler horse was regarded by the military as the very best in difficult conditions and harsh climates. Scratcher was one such horse that travelled to Gallipoli and onto the Western front.
This is the story of an Australian war horse.
