MARCH 2024 - This month, each branch of the Australian Defence Force celebrates the anniversary of their formation. This month we recognise, and give thanks for, the service of the Navy, Army and Air Force ... and wish them a very "Happy Birthday"!

A Navy anew

In 1901 Australia's various colonial navies amalgamated to form the Commonwealth Naval Forces. A decade later the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was formed.

Air Force formation

A little younger than the Navy and Army, the Australian Flying Corps was born during the First World War as part of the Australian Infantry Force. Within a few short years, it evolved into the Royal Australian Air Force - officially formed in 1921.

On 31 March, the Air Force will celebrate its 103rd year of service. Click here to learn more.
