We commemorate: "Sarbi", Explosive Detection Dog

"Sarbi" worked as an Australian Special Forces Explosives Detection Dog in Afghanistan. She went missing in 2008 after her patrol was ambushed by insurgents. "Sarbi" was found 14 months later in a Taliban village and returned to overjoyed Australian troops before being brought back to Australia.

"Sarbi" was awarded an RSPCA Purple Cross Award in 2011 for her service to humans and exceptional courage. The Purple Cross Award was established in recognition of animals who risked their lives to save a person from injury or death. Three animals have received this award for acts of bravery undertaken during their wartime service: "Murphy" the donkey (First World War); a dog named "Smoky" (Second World War); and "Sarbi" the Explosive Detection Dog (Afghanistan).
