Aftermath: The End of the Second World War
The First World War, basically a servicemen's war, brought us 'Anzac'; the Second World War, with millions of Australians involved in and out of uniform, brought us huge social, economic and diplomatic change.
Everyone had a war memory - from something as straightforward as coping with rationed clothing, to navigating a huge bomber. And, as Aftermath: The End of the Second World War shows, it took a while for the immediate effects of the end of the conflict to work themselves through in the post-war world.
The images and stories in this new Department of Veterans' Affairs book bring us closer to that changing world.
