Great War Stories: 1914-1918 Gallipoli
Snipers, incredible bravery, survival and tragedy.
Fourteen individual stories of sacrifice, determination, resilience and devotion to duty, by local South West men from Western Australia who volunteered for service in the Great War of 1914-1918.
Many stories feature men from the 11th Battalion. Those who survived Gallipoili, went on to fight in a number of other significant battles including Pozieres and Bullecourt in France; and Ypres, Menin Road, Polygon Wood, Broodseinde, Passchendaele and Hazebrouck in Belgium.
This book features a number of most significant service records in Australia's First World War military history. Highlights include Gallipoli snipers, the first Chaplain on Gallipoli, a blinded soldier who became a successful cabinet maker for more than half a century, and a WA Rhodes Scholar whose life was needlessly wasted in the charge at The Nek, Walkers Ridge Gallipoli.
Stories are emotionally impactful and generate enormous pride in the men who enlisted from South West Western Australia.
