Into the Moonlit Village: The Battle of Crete
Into the Moonlit Village: The Battle of Crete is a collaborative book of poetry and art by Poli Tataraki and Michael Winters.
In this book, poetry and art combine to delicately convey how ANZAC soldiers and the local population grappled on Crete with Nazi invasion and its aftermath. Strange phenomena co-exist in the ancient landscape of Crete, such as shepherds and paratroops, swastikas and Minoan frescoes. In this setting the exhausted and under-equipped Australian soldiers seem to be coming of age under the benign gaze of the Bull, transplanted into an ancient land to fight against a brutal and unprecedented cutting-edge technology.
In this book, poetry and art inform the mind as much as they touch the human heart.
