Now that I am big: Anthony's story
Now that I am big: Anthony's story is told from the perspective of 5-year-old Anthony - who is learning to cope with the changes in his family and the household dynamic (including the expectation for him to take on new responsibilities at home) while his Dad is away on deployment. It also looks at self-protection mechanisms for children, such as emotional distancing.
Created as part of the Early Childhood Defence Programs project, this book is part of a series of research-based storybooks, all designed to increase and support a child's understanding about the work of their parents and how it affect their lives. Topics focus on deployment, health impacts and family life in general.
Thanks to the generous funding of the Ian Potter Foundation, the University of New England and the Associate of Graduates of Early Childhood Studies, a free version of this publication (along with interactive educational activities) is available at https://ecdefenceprograms.com/index.php/now-that-i-am-big/
