Julia Delaforce exposed an alleged Defence cover-up involving a serious on-base security breach, including significant leadership mishandling of an armed, suicidal soldier and failures that posed a mass-casualty risk. Delaforce was silenced for over 15 years through institutional processes and non-disclosure constraints, further preventing her from contributing publicly to major accountability inquiries including; the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

Whilst her disclosure to the Australian Human Rights Commission in December 2010 set-in motion the (now) historical Review into the Treatment of Women in the ADF(phase2), Delaforce claims the ADFs 18month Defence investigation was weaponised and reframed into a "women's issue" intentionally to shift public interest focus away from the ADF Base security failure given its proximity to the 2009 highly publicised US Fort Hood hostage and shooting incident.

In 2025, she successfully challenged the removal of her NDA in a landmark case represented by Human Rights Law Centre whistleblower project, making it possible for her to be interviewed by national media programs like 60Minutes, SBS and Ch10 News+ where she publicly calls on the Albanese Government for federal NDA bans  in workplaces and public inquiries; such as the upcoming Military Sexual Violence Inquiry.

In 2026, Delaforce's case is expected to form part of the Inspector-General of the ADF's inquiry into the alleged "weaponisation" of the military justice system, who is currently considering whether Defence whistleblower cases like hers warrant renewed investigation in order to set the public record straight about what occurred and how it was mishandled.
