Trench whistle
By
Exclusive to the Australian War Memorial
Issued to infantry officers during the First World War, the Trench Whistle (or General Service Whistle) was a means by which platoon commanders could issue orders to their men in the din of battle. It was this type of whistle that sounded the dreaded "Over the top!" command, signalling for the infantry to leave their trenches, cross no man’s land, and attack the enemy.
This handy whistle bears the Australian War Memorial logo and makes a compact souvenir or gift.
